answer. The Chinese counterfeit everything that has more than nominal value. The sets of cash coins sold to tourists are some of the best/worst examples. I have even heard coin dealers talk about getting out of the business because of Chinese counterfeits flooding the silver and gold market. The Alibaba website openly advertises fakes. Some sellers even give you the option of buying ones marked "copy" (in accordance with U.S. federal law) or without, but as far as I know foreign fakes are not covered by the U.S. law.

If you like a design, that is a good enough reason to buy it. Obviously, I would have concerns about buying it for investment.
