Growing up in NYC, Florida was widely regarded as The Promised Land. My parents loved the Miami area, and talked about retiring there. I was the first in my family to break the mold and started spending all my vacations in California. If I wanted to go to a theme park, I went to LA instead of Orlando. And of course as soon as I visited Vegas for the first time, that became a regular part of my CA trips.
