Been going there for so long, they oughta give me a diploma, already. A ton of chips and tokens appeared today, BUT - $5 seems to be the new going rate for the sellers. I turned down a bunch of those.
First, from Saturday, I returned to the Sovereign Nation of Baronia for a "refill" of their new chips. Hail, Baronia!
From the Pasadena Swap:
There's a story behind the Buffalo Bill's $5. The elderly lady selling a few chips and tokens asked if I were collecting such items. I said yes, and she pulled out a whole tub of slot tokens from her van! But then she said, "These are silver." I looked and said, "No ma'am, they are actually brass, white brass." She replied that her deceased husband had gone to Las Vegas and collected them, and he knew silver and gold from brass. I pulled out a stack of prospective purchases but again she insisted they were silver (and a couple, "gold"). She priced them at $5 each, except the Buffalo Bill's which was $10. I again told her they were all brass, either yellow or silvery colored, and said, "If you can prove the Buffalo Bill's is silver, I'll pay you the $10 for it." So she turns around and pulls out a magnifying glass, squints at the token, and says "Yes, it's silver, I can see it."
I gave her the Ten and dumped the remainder of the tokens back into her tub. Sometimes, a swindle is so darn amusing that it's worth participating in.
