Re: Playboy and Penthouse chips
In Response To: Playboy and Penthouse chips ()

I flew to Cancun in 2011 with the express purpose of visiting the Playboy Casino, which really was only a rumor at the time. They had no website, and there were a few mentions on travel sites, but I had no idea what to expect or even if they had generic chips or whatever. I took a taxi there the first night and you really wouldn’t know what it was from the outside. I should have taken pictures, but I was only there at night. There was a membership fee to enter which I want to say was around $25 US, but you got a pretty nice card for that. When I finally got some chips in my hands, I couldn’t believe my eyes. They were heavy, very heavy, and so detailed, that one dealer laughed at me for examining them with a magnifying glass at the table. I eventually went upstairs to the poker room, which was two tables, as I recall. Poker is always good for handling a lot of chips. 10% rake, no maximum, a tough game to beat, but I came out ahead the first night. At poker I was able to squirrel away quite a few 20s and 10s, and found out about the existence of the 50, which I hadn’t seen downstairs. I played there three nights, each night changing USD at the cage and getting chips. I saw 5s on the dice table, but nobody was ever playing, and given the minimum, I couldn’t calculate some kind of weird lay bet that would net me one, so I wound up getting one or two each night at the cage when the conversion rate was just right. The last night I figured how many dollars to exchange to get just over 1500 pesos so I would get a 1000 and a 500, which you really didn’t see many of on the tables. My last act in the place was playing roulette. Can’t recall the minimum, but I bought 40 orange chips, and made for the exits with exactly six of them. This place was small, but had a Playboy presence, and there certainly were bunnies. Oddly enough, about fifteen years earlier, I did a similar Playboy chip run to the Greek island of Rhodes. That place was Playboy in name only. Great chips, but not a bunny in sight.
