Jim, everybody above has it right regarding uric acid. In some cases, however, your kidneys may be weakening and you should definitely see a Urologist. When you're there, ask about Colchicine. That is what I used to take for gout attacks. It is a prescription drug. It works quickly. I used to get it so bad that I could hardly get out of bed. However, since I am on dialysis, I don't get it anymore.
