A certain security outfit in the UK was showing a casino group in Europe how (6) manufacturers in China were openly boasting that they can duplicate any chip, anywhere. They did go on to say that even though their (Chinese) chips were popular in Asia where the games are fast and furious, the in and out action wasn't detected by the house. Of course the security company was selling their service, but they did provide shocking evidence as to how good some of this stuff is.

The problem does exist, but not all that big of a deal.
