This is always a tricky subject...

Like most others on this board, I have collected many different items before I settled into casino chips and tokens. For most of the time I collected, grading services only dealt with coins, and even then I had some issues with that. Like other fields, the second the slab goes on a set price is associated with the coin but if i am not happy with it I can take it out and resubmit it to the same place or another company. After some time, I could actually get the grade I feel it is and can now demand a higher price for what I have but how fair is that. And then you have to take the company into the equation and figure if what they say the grade is will be universal across the board or be considered less with someone else. When I collected coins I did buy a few slabbed items but the only reason was they were either a variant or rare coin that I wanted to make sure was authentic and not a fake.

Over the years that people have been collecting casino items there have been fakes and some of them are collectable so who says that will not happen with slabbed chips. It will not take long to have someone figure out how to make a fake chip, a fake slab and a fake serial/reference number and sell it for an outrageous price and take advantage of someone that does not know much about the hobby or history. The only true way I could purchase something like this is:

1. It has to be a rare chip of Z1 or higher.
2. There would only be a few people that would be given permission to grade and the item delivered straight from them.

But with all the trouble and issues this would cause I do not see the point. If I want to know information on something I would just post to this board or take it to a show. Also, if this is the case, how long will it be before we start slabbing other items: pay tickets, room keys, matchbook covers, cups, ashtrays....

Now for devils advocate...

How is slabbing that much different from what most of us do already to store our chips? Most of us can say that we have chips in air tights, 2x2's and books (like Dansco) and what is the difference in this and what others are doing with coins. I personally like to see my chips and right now most of them are loose in a casino chip case so I can see them when I want to and compare them with others. In due time, I would like to get them all into air tights (so I can still see them) and make sure I can keep them longer.
