Nice post Doug.
I have read over last few years the continuing discussion of to slab or not to slab hear on TCB.
Maybe everyone should go to clubs website and read the " Slabbing Position Paper".
In previous decisions by Board of Directors, past and current, the following decisions have been made:
a) Slabbed chips are not permitted in the club auctions
b) Slabbed chips are not permitted in the convention exhibits.
c) Slabbing services are not to be performed, solicited, exhibited or sold at the convention.
d) Slabbing companies cannot advertise in the club magazine.
However, the Board of Directors has not prohibited:
1) Slabbed chips from being sold at members / dealers tables
2) Slabbed chips from being traded in the trading sessions
3) Slabbed chips from being advertised in the club magazine
4) Members selling or purchasing slabbed chips
Now with that said I personally have never had a chip graded or have ever purchased a graded chip. I know I would purchase a graded " slabbed " chip if that was the only one available and I needed it in my collection. Once I had possession of chip I would bust it out of holder and put it in proper place in my collection. It is a individuals decision on what he collects or how he houses said collection. If a dealer wants to slab all of his chips and set up at this years show that is his choice. Do you as a potential customer have the choice to purchase a slabbed chip, yes you do. I would like all who post on this subject to treat others as you would like to be treated, no matter what side of the position you take. If a dealer at this years show has a slabbed chip in his showcase, please be respectful of his right to do so without a rude remark directed his way. He should not be treated any different than anyone else. I doubt you see a slabbed chip for sale at this years show but you never know. Let's all have fun with this hobby.
