Re: Some thoughts...
In Response To: Some thoughts... ()

Personally I'm very skeptical that hiring an Executive Director (ED) is a good idea. I also thought that John Benedict's response was well thought out. Finally I think it's important that our Club have an atmosphere that welcomes opinions and ideas from both members and non-members and so I thank anyone who contributes their thoughts.
What I think is missing is any compelling evidence that this approach will work. There are lots of questions. How many current members will quit over a substantial rise in dues? Where is this grant money that will be convinced to support our Club? How will our Board and the ED interact? And many others.
My point is that I think it's unfair to ask our Board to make the significant time commitment to sort through these issues regarding a proposal that I believe they currently don't support.
Why don't the individuals who support this idea take the initiative? I wouldn't think the Board would object if someone contacted ED candidates (as a Club member and not an officer.) The result might be a short (one or two pages) proposal covering 1) the scope of the work proposed 2) the costs involved 3) the time required from Board members and 4) a forecast of expected results. The proposal would also include the ED's background and references.
I would read such a proposal with an open mind and be willing to change my opinion. At present I find the arguments for an ED very unpersuasive.
Once again I want to say "Thanks" to anyone who cares about our hobby and presents their thoughts in a constructive manner.
Peace.
