I REMEMBER WHEN WE LIVED IN JERSEY CITY IN 1963 ... AS A KID I WORKED AFTER SCHOOL AS A STOCK BOY FOR OUR LOCAL CANDY STORE OFF WESTSIDE AVE. I WAS ABOUT 9 OR 10 ... AND I WOULD SEE MEN COME IN TO PLAY THE NUMBERS AND GO IN THE BACK ROOM DOWNT THE STAIRS TO THE BASEMENT TO PLAY CARDS. I ALSO REMEMBER MEN GAMBLING ON THE PINBALL (2) MACHINES IN THE BACK OF THE STORE ... HOW IT WORKED AND HOW THEY WON I NEVER KNEW ... FRANKIE THE STORE OWNER WAS QUITE A CHARACTER ... HE WOULD LOAN MONEY ... MAKE BOOK ... GIVE CREDIT TO THE OLD LADIES FOR FOOD ...AND WHEN THEY WERE BUSY I WORKED THE SODA COUNTER. I LEARNED TO MAKE CREAM SODAS AND CHERRY COKES! ... AS I GOT OLDER I REMEMBER POLICE RAIDS ON A BUNCH OF CANDY -DELI STORES IN OUR COUNTY ... MUST HAVE BEEN NOT PAYING OFF THE COPS? ANYWAY IF YOU REMEMBER YOUR OLD CANDY STORE OR PINBALL STORIES ... YOUR COMMENTS ARE MOST WELOCMED ... HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL! .... ENJOY THE PIC'S ... RICH BURGEL
