Win Cards Exposed
In Response To: Re: A few Reno Chips ()

I'll try Bob.

There's a company called Gaming International in Stateline that markets little plastic cards that explain how to play the various casino games. In addition to folders with the rules, there are some "circular slide rule" type gadgets that purport to tell you what do do under various game situations.

They promote these to casinos to sell as customized-packages along with some NCV chips. The patron usually puts up $15 or $20 and gets an extra 5 or so chips for his money. These are played on the tables as live chips till you lose them. Most places tie it in with their slot club and offer it only to new members, but that's not always rigidly enforced.

It's basically a way to get the timid tourist to put some money on the table and get the feel for the game. It is a good deal in that you get an extra 25-30% on your money when you buy these. Of course, chip collectors just take the stack of chips and walk out the door, but that's OK [G].

The logo of the Win Cards pormotion is a 'dancing couple', and this sometimes, but not always, appears on the chips. It is not on either the Flamingo or the Rail City chips. The neatest Win Card chips are those put out by the Sands in Las Vegas, the High Sierra, and the Reno Ramada: they are inlaid H&C chips, with the dancing couple. The Tahoe Biltmore even had an orange Chipco made (with the dancing couple logo). There's also a Chipco made to use as a Win Cards 'tip chip', but I forgot who issued it as it doesn't have a club name.

A nice little sub-category to NCV chip collecting.

I'd be interested in hearing if anyone has chips other than those I've mentioned.

If there's interest, I'll put up a scan of the chips I know about.
