His life of crime intersected many people in the 1960's and beyond. My two connections: first job at a law firm, one of the criminal defense attorneys there had worked on the defense team for Family Member Tex Watson. There was a big legal fight concerning his extradition to California from Texas, where Watson had fled, apparently California had stricter penalties for murder, but eventually Watson's death sentence became "jail for life." I was in charge of keeping all the files on that.
Second odd connection: The Iverson family bought the decrepit Spahn Ranch which Charlie had stolen to make his headquarters in Chatsworth. The Iversons developed the land into townhouses and condos and ended up rich. They lent me the money for a second mortgage to buy my first house in North Hollywood, strictly a real estate mortgage deal but for which I am grateful. Charlie wouldn't have done that!
