A GUEST AUTHOR’s HARVEST STORY

ELK VALLEY & PECHANGA (CALIFORNIA INDIAN CASINOS)

By:J ERIC FREEDNER

Hi, everyone,

Yes, doubles! Let's start with Elk Valley, where you can play cards with the elk. (How boring. They just stand around with poker faces.)

Got an Elk Valley chip in the Convention Trade session, as best as I remember, perhaps from Reggie. Although I was pickin' up chips left 'n right so I might be wrong. I knew Elk Valley was a relatively scarce item. So I took it, hoping to list it on eBay.

Not noticed was the hairline crack in the chip, which appears to have intensified in current days. From the high temperatures? Or maybe my imagination? Last night I looked in my albums and having finally found my existing Elk Valley chip, I did a double take! The chip from the Convention is hot-stamped in gold. All other Elk chips I've seen are in silver.

Not only that but when I went out this afternoon to take a photo - I noticed the PIP things around the outer ring are also different colors. Light grey for the silver, and a very light tan for the gold. Anyone else ever notice this? And suddenly my cracked chip . . . isn't looking that bad, after all.

Yesterday I went to the Pechanga, wondering if they have any new-design chips, since the casino logo is in the process of changing. New logo is a P shaped like a cavalry-man's sword, if you have a vivid imagination. No chips with that design, but . . . in the Poker Room I noticed a $1 chip much darker than the others. Rushed to the cashier and bought 20 dollar chips, and sure enough, five were like that - black or very dark purple lines and lettering, versus the lighter blue of the other dollar chips.

Back down to the first floor to buy another 15 one-dollar chips from a somewhat befuddled blackjack dealer. Five of those were the black kind, too. Could all Pechanga chips once have been that color, but wore down to blue over the years? Don't think so; my Pechanga blue $1 of about 5 years ago still looks nothing like the black ones, which are all in near-mint condition. The rims are of different colors too. As if Pechanga re-ordered or found some unopened boxes in the vault.

Don't know if this color variation is enough for a ChipGuide or CashCoin listing but here's a scan.

PERSONAL HARVESTING STORIES

THE REMINGTON WHITEFISH, MONTANA

By:RICHARD “REGGIE” GUMMER

THE REMINGTON IS ABOUT TWO DOORS DOWN FROM THE BULLDOG SALOON; WHICH HOUSES THE JIMMY CLAYTON POKER ROOM. CENTRAL AVENUE IS A VERY ACTIVE STREET, DAY OR NIGHT. THIS NIGHT IT WAS RAINING HARD AND STEADY.
WHEN NANCY AND I WALKED INTO TO THIS FINE ESTABLISHMENT, WE COULD NOT HELP FROM MARVELING AT ALL OF THE OLD WEST FURNISHINGS, THE BACK BAR THE RUSTIC OLD TABLES, THE HUGE SPACES BETWEEN SLOT MACHINE BANKS, ETC. AND THEY USED A BIT OF MARKETING BY PLACING THEIR TWO POKER TABLES IN THE VERY FRONT OF THE CASINO-BAR-RESTAURANT, WHERE PEOPLE COULD SEE THEM FROM THE SIDEWALK.
I NOTICED THERE WAS NO ONE PLAYING JUST TWO DEALERS AND I THINK ONE OF THEM MIGHT HAVE HAD A PART OWNER SHIP IN THE POKER TABLES BECAUSE OF THE WAY HE ANSWERED MY QUESTIONS. I COULD TELL THIS WAS GOING TO TAKE SOME DOING TO GET THE CHIPS OUT OF THIS PLACE.
MEANWHILE NANCY WANDERED OFF TO FIND A FRIENDLY MACHINE THAT SHE COULD COAX A FEW BUCKS OUT OF, WHILE I CHIT CHATTED WITH THESE TWO DEALERS. THEY SAID THERE SHOULD BE A FEW PEOPLE ALONG ANY TIME, BECAUSE (I ALREADY KNEW THIS) THAT JC’S NEXT DOOR HAS PROBABLY FILLED BOTH OF THEIR TABLES. I TOLD THEM YEAH THEY WERE BOTH FULL, SO I CHATTED SOME MORE WITH THEM, THIS WAS ALWAYS EASY FOR ME, SINCE I HAD GREW UP IN MONTANA AND I KNEW A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT THE STATE THAN MOST TOURIST TYPES THAT TRY TO TALK THEM OUT OF CHIPS. IT WAS GOING ON ABOUT AN HOUR OF WAITING AND TALKING, WHEN I SAID OUT OF THE BLUE; WOULD IT BE POSSIBLE TO GET JUST 20-30 DOLLARS WORTH OF CHIPS? THEY KINDA OF LOOKED AT EACH OTHER AND THE RAIN WAS STILL COMING DOWN STEADILY, AND ONE OF THEM SAID, SURE WHY NOT AND LEANED OVER THE DEALERS BOX AND OPENED IT UP. HE SPREAD OUT SOME CHIPS AND I WENT TO WORK. WHEW; THAT WASN’T A LOT OF FUN, I DID GET ENOUGH CHIPS FROM THEREMINGTON…REGGIE

A PAIR TO DRAW TO

I am always trying to put things together that have some semblance of balance. Of course, that will always be in the eye of the beholder. Some of these may attract you the collector a little or a lot, no matter which way it attracts, please know I am always trying to help you out, with items you want at price that is fair. For now, I am going to do them every week, but as an unscheduled surprise feature…Thanks for looking. Reggie

If you have some ideas about compatible pairs please send them in to me. If it is possible and I happen to have the two, they will be put on the docket...reg

CHIP TIPS FOR CHIP COLLECTORS

24 HOUR RULE

If at all possible the 24 hour rule should be applicable to the following scenarios:
• ORDERING A CHIP THAT HAS LIMITED AVAILABILITY AND IS POSTED AS SUCH.
Try to remember to make a final confirmation and or arrangements for payment and shipment. (24 Hours)
• ORDERING ANYTHING AND NOT COMMUNICATING TO THE SELLER YOU WON’T BE ABLE TO PAY FOR IT RIGHT AWAY.
When you have a responsible seller that informs you that your item is available and what the price & shipping is, and you do not get back to seller (In 24 Hours) to inform them you will be sending payment (today, tomorrow or next week) you really are not worthy of any special considerations in the future. Please do not request a trade, or purchase and then not be available, by phone or email for the 24 hours or more. There may be extenuating conditions attached to the items ordered. If the seller/trader cannot get a hold of you do not be surprised if he doesn’t have it available after your finally get back in touch with him.
• MAKE A REQUEST FOR INFORMATION OR AN ITEM SEARCH OF AVAILABILITY, AND WHEN INFORMATION IS SENT OR QUESTIONS HAVE BEEN ANSWERED:
Always try to respond to this answer of information; that has been imparted by the person that it was requested from; within a short time (24 Hours)
• REQUEST A STATEMENT OF ACCOUNT (If you are using some one’s hold service or new chip service)
And then not pay them in a timely manner, is not a good practice. If you are experiencing buyer’s remorse, get back to the seller ASAP, they may not hold you to your purchase, the sooner the better. Also, life tends to get in the way of a chipper’s good intentions, but let them know you have (financial or time problems and have to re-schedule (payments-or the request made) (24 Hours)
• WHEN BUYING, TRADING OR SELLING ALWAYS BE AN EQUAL PARTNER IN THE TRANSACTION. KEEP YOUR ASSOCIATES IN THE LOOP IF YOU CANNOT PERFORM YOUR PART OF THE BARGAIN RIGHT AWAY TELL THEM WHEN YOU WILL BE ABLE TO.
Everybody has a life, and sometimes it gets in the way of Chippin’. So tell your Chippin’ partners that you may not be able to get back to them right away with the information or order processing or, whatever. (24 Hours)
• THE FINAL COMMENT I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE IS THE DEFINITION OF THE WORD “COURTESY”, THE DICTIONARY DEFINES IT AS POLITENESS. BUT IT GOES EVEN FARTHER THAN THAT, LITTLE THINGS LIKE BEING STRAIGHT FORWARD ABOUT YOUR REQUESTS, BEING HONEST, AND ACCOUNTABLE FOR YOU ACTIONS.
The best thing about our group (The CC-GTCC) is the above statement, because most of us do practice and use these rules. (24 Hours A Day)

SET OF THE DAY

MANY YEARS AGO I STARTED MY POSTING, BY POSTING “A SET OF THE DAY” I THINK I HAD ABOUT 300-400 SETS ALL TOGETHER. THAT WAS A LOT OF FUN BACK THEN. AND WHEN I STARTED DOING “A PAGE A DAY” I INCLUDED BETTER SETS AS A CATEGORY.
BUT NOW; RATHER THAN HAVING MY BETTER SETS CATEGORY, I WILL START HAVING A REGULAR SET OF THE DAY WITH MY OTHER FEATURES WHEN I DISPLAY A “PAGE OF THE DAY”.
I AM REDUCING PRICES ON MOST OF THESE SETS, SOME WILL BE FACE VALUE, SO IF YOU SEE SOMETHING YOU LIKE AND WANT, PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE IN SENDING ME AN EMAIL, PUTTING A SOLD SIGN ON THE CB IS NOT THE WAY TO GUARANTEE YOUR PURCHASE OR TRADE. SEE POD FOR P/H RATES. SEND ME AN EMAIL FOR ORDERS OR QUESTIONS…Reggie

STATES & ISLANDS FOR SALE

IT HAS BEEN VERY HARD FOR ME TO KEEP TRACK OF 50 STATES, CANADA, THE CARIBBEAN, WET CHIPS AND MY SPECIAL COLLECTION (CHIPS WITH CARDS ON THEM). I PLAN ON CUTTING THE STATES DOWN TO ABOUT SEVEN + OR -; PLUS, MY SPECIAL COLLECTION (CHIPS WITH CARDS ON THEM) AND CANADA. I HAVE NOT DECIDED WHAT TO DO ABOUT MY WET CHIPS, I LIKE THEM AND ENJOY CRUISING SO, THEY MAY BE A KEEPER.

WHAT YOU SEE BELOW IS WHAT I HAVE SETTLED ON SELLING. ALL OF THE STATES HAVE BEEN PHOTOGRAPHED AND PRICED. I AM NOT HOLDING OUT ANY CHIPS OF THE STATES, EXCEPT A FEW OF THE CHIPS WITH CARDS ON THEM. IF I CAN FIND SOME OF THESE CHIPS IN MY INVENTORY OR PAGES I WILL ADD THEM IN.

I WILL BE FEATURING ONE STATE PER PAGE OF THE DAY IN THE FUTURE. PLEASE, NO CHERRY PICKING REQUESTS, UNTIL I BREAK DOWN THE STATES INTO INDIVIDUAL CHIPS. IT WILL BE ONE TO TWO YEARS BEFORE I BREAK ANY OF THE LARGER STATES AND WHEN I DO I WILL MAKE AN ANNOUNCEMENT. ANOTHER MANNER OF MARKETING MAY BE BY CASINO AFTER I BREAK THE STATE UP, I MAY OFFER COMPLETE OR INCOMPLETE GROUPS/SETS FROM INDIVIDUAL CASINOS. ALSO, I HAVE MERGED THE SMALLER STATES INTO THE POD PAGES, AFTER ANOTHER YEAR I MAY START BREAKING UP THE LARGER STATES; THAT SEEMS TO BE THE EASIEST.

A WORD ON WHAT APPEARS TO BE DUPLICATES ON THE PAGES. THESE ARE UV OR MOLD VARIATIONS. I AM NOT GOING TO PULL THESE OUT AT THIS TIME. SHOULD THIS BECOME A NEGOTIATING FACTOR AND THE BUYER ONLY WANTS JUST ONE CHIP AND THE UV’S AND MOLDS MATTER NOT, THEN I WILL REMOVE THEM AND ADJUST THE PRICE ACCORDINGLY.

FOLKS, MANY OF THESE CHIPS ARE ALIVE, AND STILL BEING USED ON THE TABLES TODAY. SHOULD YOU BE NEAR BY A CLUSTER OF CASINOS FROM ANY PARTICULAR STATE, YOU PROBABLY CAN COME OUT AHEAD. ALSO, PLEASE KNOW THAT I CONSTANTLY OVER THE LAST 12 YEARS UP GRADED. I BOUGHT ANY NEW CASINO ISSUES WHEN THEY COME OUT FROM THE LOCAL CHIPPER THAT OFFERED THEM FOR SALE ON THE CHIPBOARD. THANKS FOR TAKING A LOOK-SEE…REGGIE
PS: IF YOU DO NOT SEE THE STATE YOU HAD YOUR EYE ON IN THIS LIST BELOW ANY MORE; IT’S BECAUSE IT HAS BEEN SOLD OR BROKEN …reg
