Good Day, it has been a while since the Page of the Day has posted. I am continuing my POD's as though nothing happened, schedule wise they are on time. Today I have about 7 pages of $5 chips, many I have nevery shown before. And leading off with my POD is a picture of my "hood" during the eye of the storm. My story about the new Lucky Lady. I had been following the ups and downs of the Normandie Casino online - open, now closed, but actually still open . . . until news of Larry Flynt's purchase of the casino hit the news. But as you know, a big ruckus erupted between Larry and the City of Gardena which wanted a guarantee of $800,000 tax revenue per month in return for certain "favorable allowances." Mr. Flynt refused to cave in and kept the casino closed . . . for a few days. I recognized this as the classic poker-bluff.
Sure enough, the City caved in, and in a news release on July 19, it was announced that the Lucky Lady might open as soon as Friday, July 20. I read this on July 20 . . . and decided to drive down to Gardena to see for myself, with no great expectation that the casino would indeed be open.
But, surprise! The new Lucky Lady was open, in fact its grand opening, marked only by a workman hurriedly applying a new Lucky Lady decal to the front doors. It must have been hurriedly arranged - no balloons, flowers or that sort of thing. Just some dedicated gamblers playin' away . . . with new chips! Which, when I bought some at the Cage, turned out to have the naked lady on the inlay. Shocking, but fun! I had all of $65 with me at the time, and this went fast for 50¢, $1, and $5 chips. Walked around the tables and asked a dealer what those green chips were - $2 drop chips, she replied. Welllll . . . back to the cage for some of those, which the cashier graciously sold. But then - I spied some red chips in a rack and was told they were $3 drop chips - not currently on the tables. But, I asked the cashier, could I buy some as a collector? She shrugged and said it was all right with her. Next problem: no more cash!
Drove frantically around Gardena looking for a compatible ATM and sure enough, a block from the Hustler, the right bank appeared. So, with a newly-acquired $100 bankroll in my pocket, I raced back to the Lucky Lady and bought more chips, including those $3 ones.
Best chuckle of the night: seeing a patron approach the doors of the Lucky Lady, stop, and stare at the new decals. He did a double-take, as if he was on "Candid Camera." But the doors had a familiar look to them, so in he went. I can only imagine his surprise when he got a handful of naked lady chips for his game!
Anyway, that's one of the few casino grand openings that I ever attended, and pretty much all by accident.

DEADWOOD, SOUTH DAKOTA IS A UNIQUE EXPERIENCE FOR ANY CHIP COLLECTOR. IT CONJURS UP THE FEELING OF THE OLD WILD WEST THE MINUTE YOU ARRIVE. AND IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THAT FEELING THEN IT WILL BE PROVIDED FOR YOU, BY THE SHOOT OUTS ON MAIN STREET BY THE LOCAL THEATER PLAYERS. I HAVE BEEN THERE SEVERAL TIMES. MY HARVESTING EXPERIENCE THERE HAS NEVER BEEN THE SAME.
THREE THINGS COME TO MIND. THE FIRST IS WHEN I DISCOVERED HOW TO GET THE PEACOCK CLUB CHIPS. THAT WAS PROVIDED BY A LOCAL THAT OFFERED THE INFORMATION FROM BEHIND A BLACKJACK TABLE. THE SECOND WAS A RAINY NIGHT AT THE SALOON NO. 8. THE ONLY POKER GAME GOING WAS “BUTTONS CHOICE” BETWEEN HOLDEM AND OMAHA. I THOUGHT I WOULD PICK UP A FEW HANDS, NOT MUCH LUCK FOR ME, THE LOCALS KNEW EACH OTHER AND I DIDN’T. LATER ON DURING THE NIGHT A WELL HEELED GENTLEMAN STUMBLED IN AND ANNOUNCED, I WILL GIVE $50 FOR A SEAT. SOMEBODY STOOD UP AND SAID YOU CAN HAVE MINE FOR $50. AND THEN ALL HECK BROKE LOOSE, HE PLAYED EVERY HAND BET EVERY ROUND AND ENDED UP WINNING ABOUT 3-4 HUNDRED DOLLARS, AT THAT POINT HE PUSHED ALL OF HIS CHIPS TO THE DEALER, WITH INSTRUCTIONS TO DIVIDE IT EVENLY WITH THE OTHER DEALER. THE THIRD WAS THE MOST RECENT, AFTER WALKING FROM CADILLAC JACKS TO THE FRANKLIN HOTEL COLLECTING ONLY WHAT WAS NEEDED, I SETTLED INTO A TAME HOLDEM GAME AT THE GOLD DUST. WHILE TALKING TO THE DEALER ABOUT COLLECTING CHIPS I WAS INTRODUCED TO ONE OF THEIR MARKETING PEOPLE. I WAS INFORMED THEY WERE ABOUT INTRODUCE A NEW $2 CHIP IN A FEW WEEKS. I ALSO, WAS INFORMED THAT IF I LEFT MY NAME AND ADDRESS THAT THEY WOULD SEND ME ONE, COMPLIMENTARY. THAT HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE, AND PROBABLY NEVER WILL AGAIN. I HAVE BEEN COLLECTING POST CARDS FOR SEVERAL YEARS, AND HAVE SOME PRETTY COOL ONES. THOUGHT IT WOULD BE A NICE THING TO DO; SHARING THEM. NOT QUITE READY TO START SELLING THEM. SHOULD THIS BECOME A NEGOTIATING FACTOR AND THE BUYER ONLY WANTS JUST ONE CHIP AND THE UV’S AND MOLDS MATTER NOT, THEN I WILL REMOVE THEM AND ADJUST THE PRICE ACCORDINGLY.
FOLKS, MANY OF THESE CHIPS ARE ALIVE, AND STILL BEING USED ON THE TABLES TODAY. SHOULD YOU BE NEAR BY A CLUSTER OF CASINOS FROM ANY PARTICULAR STATE, YOU PROBABLY CAN COME OUT AHEAD. Starting 2016, I have listed everything I have (all of my excel inventory +) on the collection library trader/for sale. Of course, many of you did not know that my previous listings were items I had more than one of. Now, everything; even the ones I only have 1 (one) of will be listed. Please know; none of these are from my personal collection. One more important point while searching for chips on my CL site; there are two settings for viewing my chips. One is a simply a long, long list of pictures and descriptions. Two is by Country/City/State/Casino alphabetical. You may request to change this at any time. And when you do I will leave it on that setting for a couple of days, or whatever you request within reason, before I change to help another chipper’s request.

This will cause more work for me, and along with that will be the possibility of more errors, and chances for items to slip through the cracks. So, I apologize in advance for the times I do not clear off a listing after it has been sold. Also, on the other side of coin, there will be times I will find a very nice item that I had forgot to put on the “Collection Library” when I first got it. And now I am listing it just when you started looking for it.
*On the subject of trading, please know: When you spot something on my CL Trader/For Sale list that you really want, I need to get something that I can put into my collection, also; or it will be a cash sale. Because, to take in trade something I will in turn have to sell, (that is already in my collection) requires me to work twice as hard to complete the original transaction.
The total amount of chips listed on this site as traders and for sale are approximately 4500. This of course will fluctuate up and down, however this number should afford most collectors looking for a piece to put in their collection at least an opportunity to see a few chips not often offered.
