Here's something you may not have heard about before. The Assay Commission met annually in Philadelphia to verify that the coinage of the USA was of the proper weight and composition. You can read about the history of this commission in Wikipedia at:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Assay_Commission
The members of the commission were unpaid but each received one of the dated commission medals.
After the government had debased the currency to the point that it wasn't possible any more to include any precious metals in the coins, the commission was disbanded. This is one of the last medals created. It is dated 1977 and shows Martha Washington on one side and the historic Philadelphia mint building on the other. It is oval and is made of Pewter.
Early medals were sometimes round or rectangular and could be made of different metals from one year to another. When Pres. Jimmy Carter learned that the (now useless) commission was costing the government $20,000 (!) a year, he disbanded it.
This medal is in the original sealed plastic container, includes a plastic stand for display, and is in the original box of issue.
I have two of these '77 medals and you can have one for $30 delivered in USA.
