Hi Charles. I think the famous well known Nick the Greek was Nick Dondolas, he was a good friend with Nick Pandelis the owner and builder of The South Shore Club Casino. When the casino opened 7-21-65 Pandelis asked Dondolas to deal the first hand of blackjack. Dondolas passed away the following year on Christmas day 1966. Nick the Greek was a very interesting gambler and a great humanitarian. In 1951 Nick the Greek played a public five-month poker marathon with Johnny Moss in Las Vegas.
I talked with Nick Pandelis a few times and have him on audio tape from 20 years ago. Of the 6 man group that opened the South Shore Casino Nick Dondolas is not listed. The sign of the ashtray and the sign for the South Shore Club Casino match. I can see Pandelis making an ashtray to honor his friend Nick the Greek but it is just a feeling. Having fun Steve.
