I really do not think it is anything that you doing wrong but just not knowing the way the program thinks.
I have had this program for over a year now and spent a lot of time playing around with it and feel as if I have barely scratched the surface but the PDF part is the area I have spent the most time with. I have been meaning to put together some secondary manuals and over the last few months from what other people have been saying seems like this would be a good idea.
The issue with creating a PDF is that it is not just a simple click of the button, but a process of putting together your layout, the information you want included and also the PDF editor you are using. So make sure that:
1. When entering a chip, that all the information you want is filled out.
2. When you want to create a PDF, highlight the chips that you want included in that file.
3. Go to printing > 2D Report Generator (this is the area that had given me issues for a while not knowing how the program was created and way it sorted things out).
3.a. There will be a pop up box and the first thing to do is pick the size of page of the final object, the information you want to show and 1 or 2 sides of the chip.
Once you picked your layout, there will be a preview of it in the bottom of the box.
3.b. Under 'Style Dimensions' you can not see the actual dimension and placement of each square that will have all the information. If you do not like the presets, you can easily change it to what ever you would like.
NOTE: If you are going to make changes, rename the file in 'New Style Name' under 'Style Name'. I suggest doing this for awhile until you find the exact layouts you want.
3.c. Under 'Text Placement' is where you can start to make any real changes. There will be a default list of items but you can delete them by going to the pull down menu, picked that description and hitting 'Delete Object' below. To add something, do the same steps but pick 'Add Object'.
Now once you have added an object, you can now click and drag it to where ever you want it to be within that square. So moving the image to opposite side and the text below it is easily done
3.d. Under 'Paper Size' is where you will now be able to place your square layouts onto the actual sheet size as well (I am at work doing most of this by memory so I will add better instructions at a later time of how to adjust these).
Once you do anything else, re-save the layout again.
Now that you have everything the way you want it, click print. It will now create a PDF that you can preview and then save to your computer.
ISSUES:
I have ran into a few issues and not sure if it is something I need find where I messed up or something in the program.
1. When I have added chips to my set they sometimes do not show the back side and what I have discovered is two things
1.a. The program will only add one image if they are the same on both sides and you will need to add your own.
1.b. The image file you have on your computer does not work with the formats in the program, there is a difference between .jpg and .jpeg files.
2. Every once in awhile it has an issue with an image and will quit creating my PDF at that point. By going in and changing it has helped so far but not sure if it is something else I have overlooked.
3. When saving your layout, you do not change the file name and instead of over writing the previous version it creates a second one with the same name so it looks as if you have multiples of the same thing.
This is just a quick down and dirty instruction list but I will eventually make some more in depth ones if other would like them. Also, if anyone has something to add to this to make it easier I would like to know what it is as well.
