A few weeks ago, Armin Pfaender gave me a "challenge:" to find something about the old illegals of Arbuckle. He especially wanted to know about Tex's and Tuffy's. And while I rarely get up to that city, strange things happened; my tenants in Yreka bailed and left the house a shambles, and I had to drive up there to inspect and make whatever small repairs I could over an all-too-short Labor Day weekend. And so, I found myself returning on Sunday evening through Arbuckle ....
Exited I-5 onto Fifth Street, the main street of that little town. Drove around a bit and then . . . I spotted it! Tex's Tavern, big as life!! 513 Fifth Street, Arbuckle CA 95912.
I got up the courage to walk in . . . there was nobody in the place except for a man who quickly walked into the kitchen, and a lady, eating supper at the bar. Obviously the barkeeper. I asked her, did they ever have a cardroom in the place, and she replied, somewhat hesitantly (probably figuring me for a cop), yes, once, but years ago. I explained my interest in casino chips and did she know what sort of chips were used there? She replied, they didn't use chips, they had wooden free-drink tokens. Her father left her one and she's not about to part with it. All the other tokens were discarded a long time back.
I asked if the bar was the same as Tuffy's and she said, no, Tuffy's was located a block up Fifth Street. At one time Arbuckle had 7 or 8 bars and "illegal things were done at some of them." The town was known as "Barbuckle" for all its alcohol consumption. I thanked her for the information and left, with the uneasy feeling that the man in the kitchen was spying on me - well, whoever heard of a woman alone in a bar talking with a total stranger.

WIN-RIVER CASINO YOU WOULD THINK WOULD BE NESTLED NEAR A CALIFORNIA RIVER SOME WHERE IN THE NORTHERN CALIFORNIA FOREST. THAT COULD NOT BE FARTHER FROM THE TRUTH. WIN- RIVER IS IN A SLEEPY NEIGHBORHOOD IN THE CITY OF REDDING, YOU HAVE TO BE ON YOUR TOES WITH A GPS TO FIND THIS CASINO.
I ARRIVED THERE FAIRLY EARLY IN THE MORNING TO FIND VERY FEW PATRONS, BUT I HAD FOUND A VERY GOOD PARKING PLACE NEAR THE DOOR OF THE CASINO.
AS I WALKED IN I WAS CHECKED OUT SUSPCIOUSLY BY AN UNIFORMED SECURITY GUARD. I PROCEEDED TO THE CAGE TO ASK FOR THE CLAY TREASURES THAT I WANTED, AND WAS TOLD; YOU GET THEM AT THE TABLES, AND ONLY ONE BLACKJACK TABLE WAS OPEN. THAT WAS NOT WHAT I WANTED TO HEAR, BECAUSE I NEEDED TO GET ON DOWN THE ROAD. I SAT DOWN AND BOUGHT $50 WORTH OF CHIPS, AND GOT THE NECESSARY $1’s & $5’s THAT I WANTED. BUT, I NOTICED THEY HAD SOME VERY PRETTY WHITE 50c CHIPS, AND I REQUESTED A TRADE OF 3 ONE DOLLAR CHIPS IN EXCHANGE FOR 6 WHITE 50c CHIPS. AND THE DEALER CALLED THE PIT BOSS AWAY FROM READING HIS MORNING PAPER, I GULPED AND WAITED. PIT BOSS SAID YOU GET THOSE WHEN YOU GET A BLACKJACK, I SAID I HAD NOT GOTTEN A BLACKJACK AND I HAVE TO GET BACK ON THE ROAD. I JUST KIND OF WAITED HIM OUT AND THEN I SAID HOW ABOUT JUST FOUR YOU WON’T MISS THAT MANY. HE SAID OK, I MADE THE EXCHANGE AND WALKED PAST THAT SECURITY GUARD SMILING AND GOT BACK ON THE ROAD.
NEEDLESS TO SAY I GOT ALL THE $1’s AND 5’s I NEEDED BUT DID NOT GET ENOUGH 50c CHIPS…REGGIE

I am always trying to put things together that have some semblance of balance. Of course, that will always be in the eye of the beholder. Some of these may attract you the collector a little or a lot, no matter which way it attracts, please know I am always trying to help you out, with items you want at price that is fair. When I purchase the chips no matter where I find them from the cashier in a casino or card room, the prices remain cheap and discountable.
If I purchase them from another individual at their asking price, the prices are slightly higher than I paid for them, and are usually not discountable, unless they are sold with other chips that were discountable…
I rarely discount only one chip purchases unless it is a sizable purchase/price.
The more chips a customer buys the better the discount is.
As you can see, for those of you that buy and do not trade, my prices are as low as I can make them. It is because I love “Chipping” so much that I try to make as many different chips available as I can.
Along with the discounting, I try to keep the postage and handling down to a minimum. Many customers can attest to the fact that I sometimes collect less postage money, than it cost me to ship. Hopefully the p/h costs will not rise to fast. Also, I many times do not figure the pay pal cost into the equation. (If there is a fee) I ask everyone to use the friend or family selection on Pay Pal.
And now on top of all these little costs pecking away at conducting trades and shipping chips, there is one more to address. All members of the Collection Library that want to maintain there membership and keep the web site working as it has been are now paying $3 a month (forever). I have been active on this site for 10 years and counting. So I will absorb another cost. It may be housed by an off site cloud host. Brian Watts will still be the host.

( THERE ARE VERY FEW THAT I HAVE DUPLICATES THEY ARE FOR SALE AND WILL HAVE A PRICE ALONG WITH THEIR TITLES). Starting 2016, I have listed everything I have (all of my excel inventory +) on the collection library trader/for sale. Of course, many of you did not know that my previous listings were items I had more than one of. Now, everything; even the ones I only have 1 (one) of will be listed. Please know; none of these are from my personal collection. One more important point while searching for chips on my CL site; there are two settings for viewing my chips. One is a simply a long, long list of pictures and descriptions. Two is by Country/City/State/Casino alphabetical. You may request to change this at any time. And when you do I will leave it on that setting for a couple of days, or whatever you request within reason, before I change to help another chipper’s request.

This will cause more work for me, and along with that will be the possibility of more errors, and chances for items to slip through the cracks. So, I apologize in advance for the times I do not clear off a listing after it has been sold. Also, on the other side of coin, there will be times I will find a very nice item that I had forgot to put on the “Collection Library” when I first got it. And now I am listing it just when you started looking for it.
*On the subject of trading, please know: When you spot something on my CL Trader/For Sale list that you really want, I need to get something that I can put into my collection, also; or it will be a cash sale. Because, to take in trade something I will in turn have to sell, (that is already in my collection) requires me to work twice as hard to complete the original transaction.
The total amount of chips listed on this site as traders and for sale are approximately 4500. This of course will fluctuate up and down, however this number should afford most collectors looking for a piece to put in their collection at least an opportunity to see a few chips not often offered.
