Once told me that the locals resented the government's attitude toward not allowing them to gamble in casinos normally reserved for guests at the hotel-casino properties. The same principals apply in Belize where some locals are denied entry. However, there are appeals in place that will allow a Belizian resident a special type player's card accepted at certain casinos. To get a card, a guest must show and prove they have ready cash assets in certain amounts that fit a threshold of available cash that can be spent in the casino. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of locals who qualify to meet those strict guidelines, but the majority of residents who work in the services industry, and their
pay scale is well below what the casinos will accept.
