This casino is to the South of Santiago Chile. Approximately an hour by car ( from where we were staying) Entrance fee is 3200 pesos (about $5 US). A decent sized place with plenty to do for the entire family. Bowling, video games, shopping, a few nice restaurants, and of course gambling.
It has a bunch of slots (3000? At a guess) Black Jack, roulette, various "poker" games....but no poker room open during the week. ...sorry Gerald...no card guards. There was also a game called punta blanco. It is kind of like baccarat.
Roulette was the big catch. The Chileans were gathered mainly around 2 of the tables. I saw many, many times guys buying in for 100,000 peso ($160 US)and spreading all of it on the felt. Every spot was covered and it was sometimes 10 high with various colors of chips. Im not a roulette player, so I moved on the blackjack.
I could never make any runs playing, but was keeping pretty even. It was slow in the morning, but picked up later toward lunch. Most of the players were not playing consistently. They would hit and then the next time they had the same hand the would stay. It became frusterating at times when they totally didn't have any regard to the odds when playing.
One guy is yelling at me...." Mala Suerte" (bad luck) meaning that I was bad luck. The dealer yelled at him back in very fast Spanish....and then gave me a wink. The guy got up and left. I believe the dealer told him that he was the bad luck...because I was not doing too bad before he got there.
They also would be $5000 Pesos on Black Jack. There was another bet that if you 2 cards paired you would get 5 to 1 on your bet. They were betting 10-15,000 on that "side bet". And the guy was wondering where all his money was going. 5 to 1 is horrible odds to match 2 on 13 possibilities.
I went over to the punta blanco table. (Only 1 in the casino) I looked into the tray and saw a few weird looking chips. They were 100 peso and 250 peso chips. (Only a hand full) They were green and orange chips. I asked if I could buy some...even offering a tip. No! I studied the game for about an hour watching. Their plampet was in Spanish. No help there. So....I really had no idea how to play, but I wanted a couple of those chips. The only reason why they have those small denominations is because when you bet on the bankers hand you win 95% of your bet (5% commission) so you need those denominations on a $5,000 bet. I sat down and lost $60 quickly. I had no idea what I was doing. I finally won a couple of hands, but then lost a few more. I decided to leave with a couple of those small chips, but she wanted me to cash them in right there. I was nervous, but pushed my chips towards her (while palming a couple😜). She only picked out the smaller denominations and colored me up on a couple of others. I decided to leave so I went to the cashier and tried to cash it, but also buy a few more of those 100 and 250 chips. They didn't have any...they are only at the table.
I went outside and waited for my ride.
