Some years ago I hit a $1,000 jackpot on a dollar machine at Harrah's Las Vegas. While waiting for the attendant to come by, two women came up to me and said that they should get a part of the jackpot because they were just playing the machine and had 'primed' it for me. I decided to play along so I asked how much they had put in and how long they were playing for. After a few minutes into their story, I started to explain what a random number generator is and how each pull is independent of the next or previous pull. I'm not sure if they truly believed they were owed something or if they were just trying to scam me but they walked away empty handed.
