I remember that day well Rob - - you and Joe were soaking up info about the signs and LV history like a sponge!
After the Neon Museum tour, we had a meal at the now-closed Cafe Cortez at the El Cortez.
The two of you showed me the the casino memorabilia that was on display near the players' club desk.
I have been frequenting the "El" over 50 years and it is seeped in memories for me. I'll add creeping around with the two of you to the long list of fun times I've enjoyed there over the years.
Damn, I wish they kept the Cafe Cortez open. Decades ago it had a serpentine shaped lunch counter with a mix of bums to businessmen lining the meandering table on any given day. Great 99 cent breakfasts too.
Joe would have loved it!
His untimely death keeps creeping on me. Joe only enjoyed a few years of retirement on his maxed-out Govt pension. I think he did fun and perhaps harmlessly weird stuff on his frequent trips to Thailand. I was glad to learn that his nickname didn't originate there!
I, for one, will quit grieving and simply remember the good times. I'm sure that's what Joe would want all of us to do.
I hope someone directs Joe's family to this forum so they can see how many folks are sharing their loss. Although small in stature, Joe was a big man in this circle!
