I remember that half-finished motel when I first drove to Las Vegas from Los Angeles in the mid 80s. I never made the connection to its location becoming Vacation Village, but makes sense now. I always wondered what the story with that motel was.
I hit the Vacation Village when I was on one of my mega chip-runs in the early 2000's. My goal was (and still is) to play blackjack in every casino in Nevada (just did the Lucky Dragon over Super Bowl weekend to keep the streak going). My memory of Vacation Village is going there on a Saturday morning and seeing more motorcycles than I'd ever seen in my life lined up in the parking lot. It looked like a motorcycle club designated that as their meeting place that morning. Probably to hit up the buffet before a ride out in the desert. The casino was virtually empty except for random bikers here and there. Played for about 15 minutes, got my chips, and never thought about returning again.
Keep the stories and photos coming, Rich. Always enjoy your posts.
