~~~ the plaque with the cut corner was designed by the French for stacking purposes... and, since there is a serial number on the piece, it was more than likely there prior to all engravings which was a common practice; such as pieces being engraved with only a numeral denomination on the reverse and later custom engraved on the obverse for the customer.
