Since my chip has inserts of a different color, as well as an inlay, I could not use your suggested solution. Instead, I tried the Magic Wand to select the base color. I then spraypainted magenta over that at 41% transparency. Color is still off, but better. Also, some detail gets lost (look at the molds) due to the 59% coverup of magenta.

My opinion... CCD-based scanners are superior to CIS-based scanners!!!!
