When I was at the Queens, the tables were very crowded, in fact the dealer asked the gentleman standing next to me not to block my view and/or ability to watch and play. So I'm not sure the Pit Boss would have done the same for me right then.
I can report that at the Boulder Station, when I wanted to buy some new $1 chips at a blackjack table, that Pit Boss came over and refused the sale, saying there weren't enough chips at the table. He then showed a softer side and suggested I go to a nearby roulette table and buy them there, and told the roulette dealer or croupier to sell me a few chips. I find that every casino "experience" is a bit different and often unexpected but most people end up being helpful.
I have on occasions in Las Vegas, bought some "ordinary" chips at the tables and then gone to the cashier and asked to "exchange" them for the special issues I want. This is not, technically, a sale, and sometimes the cage staff is accommodating and agrees to do that.
