IMO, Bill should have produced more chips like this. Maybe those who post on bulletin boards would get his name spelled correctly!
Note that Bill Borland never wrote anything that spelled his name Bordland, or Bordman, or Boreland... only Bill Borland! I don't think he "laughed all the way to the bank" when he sold his handiwork to chip collectors. His chips were all very inexpensive. And the posts that refer to him paying pro stitutes [sic] for their services with chips he made are all made-up in my opinion. Not to say he couldn't have given chips to girlfriends as gifts. Mean-spirited, and serve more to reflect the morals of the poster than that of Mr Borland.
Yes, I visited his store hidden back behind Excalibur and bought chips from him. I watched his helper stamping chips in the store. I mistakenly bought some of his "commemoratives" from an antiques dealer off Fremont St and paid too much. The dealer did allow me to exchange them for other store merchandise when I showed him how The Chip Rack described them in those days. Part of learning the hobby in my opinion and in no way did this experience "discourage me" from continuing to collect for the next 20 years . If they hadn't been listed in The Chip Rack and properly described, I might have been discouraged.
