The 2015 annual report for Gaming Partners International (GPI) is out.
(The maker of Paulson / B&G / Bud Jones and other chips / jetons / plaques, plus playing cards, dice, layouts, casino furniture, etc.)
Total worldwide revenue = $78.2 million
About 40% of total is chips & plaques (they call it "casino currency")
Another 30% is playing cards
The rest is dice, furniture, layouts, systems, etc.)
Of the chip & plaque sales, about 40% has RFID imbedded, while the other 60% does NOT have RFID.
(In the previous year, the RFID share was about 50/50, so new casino openings can change the ratio. Looks like RFID is a significant feature though.)
For the $30.6 million in casino currency, no average cost per chip is given, but if you assume the range -- from hot-stamp fractionals to big plaques -- averages $3 to $5 each, that's:
6-10 million chips / jetons / plaques being sold last year ... a LOT of chips!
