Ah, the joys of collecting - no matter how odd or curious !!!
As some of you know, to help add a little fun to my cross country trips to the Annual Chip Convention -a few years back, I began collecting "Gas Pump Calibration Tags". Yes, I know you are NOT supposed to remove them under penalty of Law, etc. , but I see it as harmless "Harvesting". In the World of "GPCT" (Hey kinda like CC>CC) one of the most hard to get and highly prized Tags is from the State of New Jersey. Jersey is the only State I know of where you can NOT pump your own gas - it has to be done by a gas "Attendant" (Usually wearing a Turban and Sandals) - you guys from Jersey will understand. This practice in Jersey makes it very difficult to obtain a "Tag".
Earlier this week I was passing thru the Pine Barrens (another odd thing unique to Jersey) and stopped to get gas at "Mighty Joe's" convenience store and gas station complete with a 20 foot high Gorilla statue. The attendant took my credit card and he began pumping the gas. Much to my surprise and joy - he went inside the store as the gas continued pumping. My heart beat a little faster as I looked around for the prized "Tag". I located on the end of the pump and quickly sprang into action !! With great skill and finesse I peeled the "Tag" off the pump in record time and immediately stowed it safely in my vehicle. When the attendant returned he had no idea that I had stealthily secured my prize !! I rode off into the Sunset with a major grin on my face.
Shown below are a couple of scans of some of my most recently obtained "Tags" and an extra large scan of my very special Jersey "GPCT".
Take care,
Jerry "It doesn't take much to amuse me" Birl
