Roosevelt's order in the 30s was an Executive Order prohibiting holding of gold by US citizens. It did depend on a wartime statute controlling ownership of gold bullion and art though. All these gold statutes were wiped out about 40 year ago though.

Did you still have to get special permission from the Feds to buy these gold statues as art pieces?
