Many apps include that type of data mining. We all know that the standard permissions include your location (fine for maps) and your contacts (but why???). Many (such as Facebook and Google) retain the power to monitor the sounds and images around you at any time using the microphone and camera function. This is why I do not access those services via an app - I do it through the web (which is slower, but does not require permissions). They may still be spying on me, but at least it is not with my consent.
