XV ¢ today, I believe it's one of those odd issues where the cancelled version is worth MORE than the mint because few people thought about using them (other than perhaps on First Day Covers). But having said that, a cancellation date some 65 years after issuance date . . . is just plain weird. Maybe only worth LVXIV cents or at most CSX.
Stamp collecting declined greatly when J. Eric ceased running to the post office to buy new issues ("Hey! Here comes that nut! Bring out the commemorative postal cards, on the double!") and stopped ordering from the Postal Service Guide ("Waaaahhh, he's not going for the watermarked and unwatermarked coil issues any more"). Also when I discovered that modern stamps, when soaked off envelopes, disintegrate into little shreds of tissue paper and leave a square of gummy glop on the envelope.
