Etymology of 南方

No problem, glad to help.

If you're curious, here's the etymology of the characters 南 (South) 方 (Direction). As you see, there are many different ways of writing that character. This is not an exhaustive list, because people have shorthand ways of writing the character as well. Shorthand is the reason why some people can get 方 (Direction) confused with the character 六 (Six), as mentioned previously in your other thread. However, if you are a native Chinese speaker, you will know by context that it is 方 (Direction) and not 六 (Six).
