I don't know if there has been scientific studies on the subject, but every art museum I have ever been to bans flash photography. My ex-wife was an art major, she told me prolonged exposure effects the pigment in the art work. A more cynical buddy says they don't allow it so they can sell more books in the gift shop. So who knows?
