Re: Holiday Queen?
In Response To: Re: Holiday Queen? ()

Holiday Queen never opened.
Holiday Inns made them change the name before opening.
Sounded to "gay" for them. vbg

Opened as Holiday Casino then Holiday Center Strip then Harrahs.

Holiday Queen chips were used for a short time until Paulson could get news ones made.

My 1st Job in LV was at Holiday Center Strip in 1980.

I started at Holiday Center Strip in 1980.

The Holiday Queen never existed as a Casino. It was the chosen name before opening.
The hotel company objected to the name at the last minute before the opening.
Collateral such as matches had already been made. I am sure I’ve seen a postcard.

The chips had already been delivered to Paulson. See attached Burt delivery card dated Nov 72. Reorder in Sept 74.
They opened under the new name but used the Holiday Queen chips for over a year. The already produced rack would have been a lot of $ to waste.

I spoke to Claudine also.
She was adamant the Holiday Queen name was discarded just before opening. She did not remember the HQ chips being used but whole heartily agreed if they were used it was to save the $ for a new rack which could not have been produced in time for the opening anyhow.

Early 1973 it was going to be called The River Queen. Some collateral made. Name rejected.

Not long before opening 1973 it was to be called The Holiday Queen. Lots of collateral made including 27,000 chips delivered Nov 1972.
Holiday Hotel Chain objected to the Holiday Queen name and won the objection.
Casino licensed in July 1973 As Holiday Casino. They opened with the Holiday Queen chips as they were already made and it would have wasted a lot of $ to have them remade, and could not be ready for the opening anyway.
Small re-order of Holiday Queen $5 chips in Sept 1974.

I spoke to Claudine Williams about this.

Sometime after Sept 1974, they changed out the rack to Holiday Casino chips.

I started working there in Feb 1980. It was called Holiday Center Strip at that time.
