Frank Polk, the guy who carved those one-arm bandit slot machines, was the the artist who carved the
model for the golden rooster at Dick Graves Nugget. At some point the Secret Service confiscated it
because it contained too much gold. Frank explained to them that it was actually a work of art and
was legal. Eventually it was returned to the Nugget. News stories of the day referred to it as Frank
Polk's chicken. Frank was truly an old west character and hung out at the Round Up bar on 2nd st.
in Reno. He stuttered when he talked but after a few drinks talked fine.
