Hey Chip Board, I have a project which I hope will be of interest to the community here. I got interested in trying to figure out how modern Las Vegas came to be - "what was where." I found that photos from each decade looked completely different from the next, and that the existing property histories were inaccurate or lacking, so I set out to make my own. Little did I know I’d still be working on the project a few years later. This is a photo-based website, and each photo in this collection – many of which are my own slide scans – can be searched by year and property name.

Focusing on "the strip," I've gone through city directories, property maps, and such to find every hotel, motel, casino and race book that existed along the road (1930s-2000). There are links here to photos to all but a few obscure places.

Fuller’s Index of Nevada Gambling Establishments and the digital collection at UNLV were both a major help to this project. I found minor errors in both of those sources, such as street listings for "S Las Vegas Blvd" before the Blvd was named.
There are a few casinos which will be known to chip collectors which I haven't found in photos, such as Matty’s Tropics, Casa Vegas, Leo Kind’s Panguingui Parlor, El Rancho Dio.
