Costco Rental Car Deals are Really Hit or Miss

Last October, I booked the greatest rental car deal in the history of teh_internets, through Costco.

Booked a 1 week Alamo mid-sized car picking up in San Diego and dropping off in San Francisco.

As you may know, usually there is a hefty surcharge for picking up in one locale and dropping off in another.

We wanted to drive up the coast and fly back from SFO to SAN.

Costco quoted 3 prices..Alamo, Budget, and I think Dollar or Thrifty was the third one.

The other two came in around $500 total with all taxes, etc. for the week, which is what we expected to pay.

Alamo came in at $148! Wat!?!

Not to mention the great Alamo customer service..choose you car from about 10 in the lot, etc.

We figured maybe they needed cars at SFO and SAN had too many of them..or more than likely just an error in the price.

Thought for sure when we picked up the car in San Diego or dropped it off in San Francisco, we would get the bad news and a major upcharge.

Never happened! I would definitely try Costco first..
