This is an interesting thread. I do not have a huge collection (550 chips or so) but I have been using Excel since day 1. It's a very flexible program, and mine contains all the above mentioned info about each chip, (color, mold, condition, etc.) as well as a link to the pics of each individual chip. I also save this file in multiple places, i.e. thumb drives, DVD, Cloud, so there is easy recovery if my lapper gets lifted or breaks down.
