Earlier this month we spent a couple of weeks around Nevada and California . Put about 2500 miles on the rental car . Went from Las Vegas to Palm Springs to Arcadia back to Palm Springs to Laughlin to Las Vegas to Reno to Las Vegas. Attended the Southern Nevada Chip Collectors meeting, met a few "old friends" for the first time, and a few for the second time , had dinner with a few chippers, tried to attend Doug Saito's chip sale at the Gold Coast but missed it (did get to meet Doug for a minute ). Got to watch a couple of long shots come in at Santa Anita. Got to attend the Long Beach flea market/collectibles show (or whatever it's called). Hit a couple of royal flushes (small ones...I'm a low-limit gambler), and so did my husband (ditto).
We stayed at 10 hotels during the trip, including the Plaza, the Fremont, and the Suncoast...and Harrah's in Reno (we were there during the "zombie crawl"!!! Wow...lol!). We ate at Dupar's (Golden Gate), the Cal, the El Cortez, and In & Out Burger... we had a wonderful trip!!!!
We added a few things to our collection, and I haven't taken any good photos or scans yet. But I will...eventually. Thank you, Jim Follis for the lovely gift!!! It was so nicely packaged that I waited until we got home to open it, and I have to say that was probably the BEST wrapping job I've ever seen! Well protected, but still able to open it without a chainsaw...well done!
I love the original Goldfish slot machines, and was excited to find a topper . We added two chips...Wilbur Clark and the Christmas tree. Found an ashtray from the Gold Key Motel (which has a place in the casino collection, because they did have slot machines ). Plates from Holiday in Reno, and Siegel's 1941, where we had dinner 2-3 times (El Cortez) . A glass from the Horseshoe in Reno, Slot Plexi from Sahara Tahoe. A group of postcards from Scotty's Castle, including one of Death Valley Scotty (nothing to do with casinos...but I love the story anyway ), and a coaster that I've wanted for years, from the Sahara. The Nevada magazine has an article about collectors of Nevada stuff!!!
