Chippers,
I have a family member who is executor of another relative's estate (who recently died). He hoarded a bunch (big bunch) of current coins (like state quarters), but also has stuff with some value (like proof sets), and some better stuff (judging by the packaging/display). This family member has asked me to get smart about the valuation/liquidation options. I guess being a chipper gives me some sort of street cred.
We know that the truly face value stuff can be cashed at a bank in one of those counting machines for no fee as long as you have or create an account.
Are there 'appraisers' who will come to the collection and for a fee assess value and recommend liquidation?
What about shops that will make offers, either on melt or collectable value? And how does one know it is a decent offer without having to go out and get a bunch of offers, etc.? The collection is heavy so a pain to transport.
After an extensive cataloguing process, there will be some jewelry, so making a good relationship with a resource who can help with that also would be a bonus.
This collection is in the Northern Virginia / DC Metro area.
Any advice? Thanks in advance.
Mark
