John, at that point, was HEAVILY influenced by Yoko. Yoko introduced him to Avant Garde, which I believe is French for "music that makes no sense". John proclaimed he would not sign off on releasing The White Album unless one of two songs were on it: Revolution #9 or What's The New Mary Jane. What's The New Mary Jane just has lots of feedback for the last 2 minutes and really isn't all that interesting. Revolution #9 is bizarre, but to think about all the work that went into FINDING all those clips, cueing them up, deciding what order to put them in, then put it together on a four track machine is an impressive accomplishment, even if it is completely unlistenable!!

When I was a DJ in the thriving metropolis of Moscow, ID, I had a fellow jock tell me he used to drop acid on occasion. Well, one time, he decided to listen to Revolution #9. And he completely got the song! He understood precisely what John was trying to accomplish and declared the song a sonic wonder and the best song The Beatles had ever done. After he realized what just came out of his mouth, he threw away the rest of the acid and has sworn off dropping acid ever again!
