Re: NCR: The Real Rocky

I'm kind of surprised that people remember. It's been a long time. Maybe it's an age thing?

I invested three years, to find this site. People who live nearby remember, and there are all kinds of stories, but the location was forgotten or misdirection. Once I found it, I also found more people who knew the real location.

Just beyond the end of the pond

This is where the real Rocky crashed in Newton Iowa April 27, 1956. I don't think I'm old enough to have known who he really was as an athlete, but at the same time, somewhere in my life I feel he was someone special. Kind of odd. I would have been nine, and I don't think I followed or understood life or boxing or heroes at that age.

But when I read about the crash, later in life, I wanted to find the spot.

For boxing fans, this is the only undefeated, retired, who fought all comers. Not someone who avoided fights, until his opponents were older.

Total fights 49
Wins 49
Wins by KO 43
Losses 0

Records are one thing. The age they were accomplished are another. How it was done, is yet another consideration. (like Favre starting for one play for the Jets just to break a record - flawed)

The real Rocky is just someone so exceptional as a person and for his record, that numbers alone can't express his carrier.
