C+J predates paulson, so C+J would be more likely. However, these chips really don't line up with the timelines in my mind.

On the injection pips, they kind of remind me of die damage on coins. Could someone have modified the compression trays to create the pips? I agree with you that these look like they are clay, not plastic.
