While gathering a few chips at the great Canton, Texas 1st Monday Trade Days, I came across this Stardust chip under a flimsy glass. Asking to see it, the dealer said it was collected by his late father who once worked construction jobs in Las Vegas. His dad while working at the site of the Stardust Casino when the casino was being demolished and was preparing the buildings to be imploded, a fire broke out and it created quite a stir as several news channels covered the event. When the fire was out and the company resumed it's implosion rigging, his dad found this chip that had been lodged under a smoldering pile of carpet. He put it in his pocket and later gave it to his son -- who was a traveling antique dealer.
I told him I collect chips, and would ask if the chip was just junk or a treasure. It's kind of cool despite the ugly burn marks on the reverse. This could have been the last chip out of the famous Stardust. Well, because of my interest, he just gave it to me -- with a promise I would find out and let him know. I did confirm the fire (see the link to news coverage), but little else about fate of the chips.
Does anyone have a thought about if this chip has any value or not?
