MRE Puts Bad Taste In My Mouth!
In Response To: Re: Email From A Reader ()

Back in the day, when our unit went of field maneuvers, it was always on short notice, and no time to prepare for quick move as only essential items like fight gear was included in the first wave. However, that logistical undertaking always included MREs. It's tough to switch on short notice from a hot meal to a MRE (Meal-Ready-To Eat). I know this contributes little to our hobby, but the sounding of the initials M-R-E conjured some unpleasant and pleasant memories of times past. But, I am told that quite a group of early gamblers haunted the streets of Shreveport and Bossier City, La., during the time mentioned. Even, former Louisiana Governor Edwin Edwards, who was quite noted for his affiliation with all types of gaming -- including horses. One question, could the M-R-E(dwards) be a cover name for Edwards,or was he a possible relative who escaped gaming's radar. Thanks for the IOD post, always a pleasure to learn more about the past.
