Illegal Of The Day Texas 37

This is one of the research projects I mentioned a few posts in the past. A lot of time spent and not good results. vbg

We got the MRE chips over a year ago. They came in quantities with other chips including some from Paulson. The year the hubs were made is quite late for an illegal. The 1st thing that came to my mind was a charity operation. As you will read we did not come up with much.

Also, I’ve tried to find out what the MRE hubs were used for but haven’t had much success. Here’s what I’ve found so far. The chips were ordered by Michael Ray Edwards, born 9nov1945. In 1973 he marries a recently divorced woman in Lincoln, Nebraska (where they both resided). Not long afterward they moved to Grand Prairie, Texas, a town west of Dallas and east of Arlington.

Edwards is associated with several addresses in Grand Prairie, Arlington and Ft. Worth. The two Arlington delivery addresses from 1983 and 1984 were apartment complexes. It seems to have been a common practice for bookies in DFW to rent an apartment in which they operated but did not reside—whether this was the case with Edwards I don’t know.

Sometime in the 1990’s Edwards and his family move to Louisiana. Not sure when they moved but it appears to be around the time that Louisiana legalized casino gambling. As far as I can tell, Edwards is still alive and residing in Shreveport. His wife is the current owner and listed resident of this property in Shreveport (I think Michael lives there too): Here is a phone number listed to his wife.

My note: I left several messages at the phone number. My last try was "number no longer in service.

The alligator came in several colors. I had GPI (Paulson) run a search for Michael R Edwards in their records. Came up with no purchases. They could not look for what was on the chip.

Another dead end. This one looks like a miss unless one of you Louisiana boys want to stop by the address in Shreveport. vbg

Here is one of the chips found with the MRE's.
