I would think the ring has value as a piece of jewelry art. I would look for someone that carries art nouveau/antique jewelry or you'll just get shafted on an offer to buy the gold content at bargain-basement prices.

Alas, I don't know of a place in L.A., but I would look in the higher-rent districts near Beverly Hills.
