If they smell like vinegar, do NOT use nail polish. If they have "vinegar syndrome", and you use nail polish, you'll end up with sticky smelly-crumbly dice!
I have done this on a few dice, with some success. Do just one side at a time (a light coat), then give it plenty of time to dry before you do the next side. On the name/logo side, carefully "dab" the nail polish (short strokes)...you don't want to smear the name/logo.
If you have any cheap "worthless" dice laying around, you can use one to practice on...then you'll be more confident when you do the real thing.
Whether you coat them or not, I'd recommend storing them away from the rest of your dice. I recently found a damaged pair in our collection...and it messed up the pair that was next to them
Good luck
All of these are damaged . The 5th & 6th photos have some dice that had the vinegar smell, but I tried nail polish anyway. That was several years ago and I wouldn't be surprised to find our that they're still sticky! (The photos are old, but I think that plastic box of dice is still in the basement...somewhere!). As you can see...some of the dice literally "implode"; the sides cave in, and when that happens the spots start to pop off! This is why I don't invent much in dice anymore, and I try to discourage my husband when he wants to spend more than about $5 a pair!
