California seems to allow chips from defunct cardrooms to be used for whatever purpose. Macon County Card Room $5 chips ended up the "house fives" at Central Coast Casino Paso Robles for awhile. Camino Casino chips became drop chips at Rancho's. Dominic's dollar chips are now the poker tournament set for Poker Flats and woe unto anyone who tries to sneak one out. There's a lady in Nevada (we won't mention names) who's happily using a set of Outpost Casino chips as her home-play set. A unique situation exists with tiny Oceana Casino using live 50-cent chips from Golden West Casino - only chip I know of to be live at two unrelated casinos. But, obviously, if a casino is still active and just changes the design on its chips - said casino owner would do well to guard all of those older chips so people won't be able to cash 'em in.
